Ukraine
‘My trip to Ukraine felt like the furthest away from home that I had ever
been. The exhibition is about the journey of leaving the comforts and
familiarities of home behind. Though these brave men and women were in
their own country, I believe they felt further away from home than I did.
The London pubs and countryside fields that I call home and recognise
as comfort had disappeared. And the word comfort becoming unfamiliar
as we ventured closer to the front. I must say, this was one of the most
dangerous trips that I had ever been on.’
‘Having spent a few nights in Kyiv, it was now time to head to the front.
Having rammed the truck with supplies we set out on our eight-hour
journey towards the frontline. We passed flattened town, one after the
other. Looking out the window at the shell scarred fields, demolished
buildings and abandoned tanks; my heart couldn’t stop thumping. We
etched closer and closer to the faint sound of shelling and sirens - I couldn’t
stop thinking; “This is someone’s home”.’
