Winter is a recent and welcome addition to our exhibitor list. Her 2023 pieces
constituted powerful statements from a highly energised and sophisticated
visual poet . . . this summer’s ‘reading’ continues the breathtaking sequence.
Embracing life, this array of works centres around esteem, worship, love
and mourning:
‘Most of these pieces, all from 2024, were made following my stay
in the Spanish mountains of Sierra Nevada; where its unforgiving and
dramatically inspirational landscape resonated with me on so many
levels. The mountains dictate every aspect of life (and death) there.
Waiting for the sun to rise above and to witness the light as it inevitably
falls once again. Pyramid mountains commanding incredible shadows
and colour–they have left a lasting impression.
The plant drawings have very specific meanings for me –
Wilder Jester Bud is the performative character of the joker or clown;
hiding internal ised pain behind humour. Open Eye Plant bears
witness to mortality. The white tree structures depicted in other
works represent hama dryads (tree spirits).
I wanted to make new works where colour ‘flooded’ in like the new
life brought to the mountains after the spring rains–landscapes
celebra ting the circle of life.’
